"Derwish" painting masterclass in Hamburg - Prequel

Greetings beings!

This weekend (starting today) I will be attending a painting workshop by "Derwish" aka slayer sword winner Stephan Rath.
I will be giving updates about the workshop, including pictures and everything on this site - so please feel free to stop by.
You know what they say: "The next best thing to attending a workshop is reading a blog about the workshop!"

Translate function now available

I noticed that there are quite a few non-english speaking folks who access this site. I know how I feel when I go and visit some of these awesome French, Spanish, Polish, Italian... painter blogs - I dont understand a word :D
On a polish site I found a function called "Google Translate" - and though the results are sometimes hillarious - it helped me to understand the content of the blog.

You find the function right under the "Subscribe" button on the right side.

And while your at it... Hitting that subscribe button is a cool feature, too!

Contrast - Black and White to see the light!

I read a lot of books and articles on miniature painting. I know a lot of things - in theory.
For example, I now about how to exaggerate light and shadows on a miniature in order to create enough contrast on a miniature. But yesterday I learned something new. I learned about overall contrast of a miniature

Theoretic painting

In practice, there is."

In der Praxis schon."

Painting mistakes - DOUBLE Eradication!

"You have been eradicated!"

Not only Arnold loved eradicating stuff, we love it too! Particularly when it comes to mistakes while painting miniatures.

How to find a color scheme for your miniatures

As I am busy getting back into the hobby, I lack a couple of things. For example the ability to think of a great color scheme. The same is true for many beginners to the hobby.

So lets just copy one! :)

Also lautet die Devise: Einfach kopieren!

On the table: Current WIPs

Greetings beings!

After successfully launching the blog yesterday I am back to my full-time painting activity. Thanks to Badsmiles help it even starts to look fancy! (Way more to come though, so stay tuned!)

I have lived in Japan for the last two years and just moved back to Germany. In Japan I have not painted anything at all. Naturally, I am a bit "rusty". So I started a few "practice" minatures last week, to get back into the swing of things.

Here is a picture of what you can find on my painting table:

Absolutely smooth blendings with the new Citadel Colors ARE possible!

As some of you may or may not know, I have recently been whining about the new GW Citadel Colors, about my difficulties (if not inabilities) to create absolutely smooth color transitions by means of successive glazes... It used to work with the old colors and does not work too well with the new ones.

I did a test of the  OLD vs the  NEW colors (links in German) with respect to smooth color transitions. I have been whining about the general injustice of this in many a thread.

In short: Due to the new medium, smooth color transitions and clean glazes are very difficult - if not near impossible - with the new Citadel colors.

Coming soon!

Under Construction

Until the End of May 2012 this blog will be under heavy construction ;)

Content will be provided, but all the bells and whistles will be turned on in the next couple of weeks ;)

Until then - enjoy!

About this Blog

Painting miniatures - for some a hobby, for many a passion.

Collecting, assembling, painting and playing with miniatures has been a constant companion for me for many years now. I got infected with this virus in 1991, when I studied at Regents College in London for a term. Knowing nothing of the hobby I stepped into a store called "Games Workshop". And that is how it all began.

For this year I have decided to commit 100% to this hobby - full time. You can expect a LOT of cool content - so subscribing might not be the worst thing you could consider ;)

In this blog I will take you along on my journey to becoming a very good painter. I may not reach the Olymp of the world´s elite painters, but I want to get as close as I can.

And you can follow me every step of the way.

You will find hints, tips and tricks as well as event coverage and videos of the major miniature events all around the globe and much more in this blog. Starting today.

More information about me, my hobby and how YOU can become a better painter, too, will be posted here on a daily basis.

Come along, friend! miniature.net's blog is the place where we learn to be a better painter!

Komm also mit - masterminis.net ist der Ort "where we learn  learn to be a better painter!"

*Weil "You can say you to me" gilt, bleibe ich mal beim vertraulichen "Du".
